History

While I don't have some cutesy backstory of hand dipping candles in the country with my grandmother, I'm going to tell you how The Black Fox Company came to be.

Crafting has always been an escape for me.  Cliche, I know.  I had started tailoring my crafts to support a future homesteading lifestyle and knew that handmade items such as soaps and candles were apparently an easy hobby to add for a self sufficient lifestyle.  Well, that's wrong.  Crafting candles is not easy by any means.  You must become some sort of mad scientist and understand the chemistry that goes into calculating the right amount of oils to use as well as the best pouring temperature depending on the container and type of wax.  It took a lot of trial and error but I soon became comfortable enough in my craft to start giving some away as gifts for holidays and other special events.

Of course, a family member painted the seed that I should make a business out of it.  As I mulled the idea over, a co-worker had a terrible riding accident that left her with a serious injury.  Uncertain on how she were to make ends meet as she healed, I set up a candle selling fundraiser with a proceed of funds going directly to her during her time of need.  Then I just kept it going.

I started making more candles in unique and fun containers, adding herbs from my garden, playing with different waxes and creating my own style.  So, why "black fox"?

In many traditions a black fox is a sign of luck.  As a spirit animal, the fox is said to reveal itself in a time of great and unpredictable change and to represent quick mental response. It says, "you must act, but do so wisely."

At the time I was developing my brand, I was going through a lot of changes that challenged me greatly.  Being someone who follows a Pagan path of spirituality, I looked to my guides for advice.  It should come as no surprise that one of them is a black fox.  So, here we are. The Black Fox Company.
